Merchant Navy is a dream job for many youngsters. But the Merchant Navy job is not for everyone. Here we will discuss all pros and cons of joining the Merchant Navy. 

Advantage of Merchant Navy 

High Salary- 
In this world, there are few jobs that give such type of salary to entry-level officers. Merchant navy the salary of anyone depends on the experience, rank, company, and ship.

So, the salary will depend on the above-discussed factors all the time. Salary will vary between $500 to $12,000 per month depending on all the above-discussed factors.  

Tax Benefits- 
Paying taxes is a responsibility of a citizen.

We must pay taxes for the development of our country.

But if you choose Merchant Navy as your career then you may get exemption from paying taxes.

Long Vacations-
In compensation for long work time, you will get equally long vacations of 2-4 months depending on you when you want to rejoin the ship.

While your ship will be at the port of any country then you can visit that country. In your whole life, you will visit many countries.

If you are joining Merchant Navy means you will have an adventurous life at sea. You have to do many other jobs other than your routine job.

This job demands a considerable level of commitment on one’s part. So, if you do not like a 9-5 job and want to live an adventurous life then you must join Merchant Navy. 

Disadvantages of Merchant Navy-
After so many advantages of the merchant navy, there are some disadvantages of the merchant navy. Let’s discuss these disadvantages. 

Home Sickness- 
If you will be a sailor then you will definitely feel homesick at some point in time. You will be away from your home for a long time that may be 12 months in some cases.

But nowadays there is limited wi-fi on almost every ship. 

Hard Work- 
As a mariner, you have to work hard. You have no weekends. And also, no-good sleep-in case of emergencies.

If you are on the ship then you are on duty 24*7. 

Social Life- 
There is no stability in your social life. You will get disconnected from society for a couple of months while at sea.

Piracy- 
This happens rarely but it happens in some parts of the world. Companies have to keep private security.
