INTERNATIONAL MARITIME DAY

The first International Maritime Day was observed on March 17, 1978, to mark the date of the IMO convention’s formal entry into force in 1958.

SS Loyalty

India’s first trade vessel and the first to fly the Indian flag was the SS Loyalty. India entered the world of international shipping on April 5, 1919, when the ship made its inaugural voyage from Mumbai to London. Because of the ship’s performance, more money was invested in India’s maritime sector, which helped end the British shipping corporations’ monopoly.
